Summary

Mahikari is a recent Japanese religious movement with a number of variants or offshoots. One of these is Sukyo Mahikari which has centres in over 75 countries; the bulk of this collection relates to its Australian branch.

This collection includes both ephemera and official publications of the organisation, including: prayer-books (Yokoshi) and the holy book (Goseigen) containing the writings of the organisation's founder, Yoshikazu Okada; training handbooks; conference proceedings and abstracts; educational resources; flyers; statements of recommended practices and viewpoints on various issues; letters; copies of journal articles and announcements for workshops and conferences. It also includes articles critical of the Sukyo Mahikari organisation and of cults. The collection has been subdivided and arranged by the National Library into several sub-themes.
