- Summary:
-
The collaborative model represents a different approach to the preparation and placement of student teachers at Wilmington College, Delaware, beginning with the spring term of 1997. The collaboration establishes five-member student teaching cohorts and teams of trained supervisors. It encourages the development of a collegial, community-of-support environment within and among the supervisory teams and student teacher cohorts. It involves both student teachers and supervising teachers in preparation programs and seminars. It changes the role of the cooperating teacher to that of a supervising teacher and promotes increased prestige, program ownership, authority, and accountability for that position. The project changes the role of the college supervisor to that of a college-school advisor/consultant whose primary role is to promote public school reform and renewal. The project changes the financial relationship between the college and participating schools, triples traditional funding levels, and provides direct financial support for instructional programs at partner school sites. Two appendixes contain a paper with an interim evaluation report by Wilmington College on the project and a paper from a 1998 planning session (Contains 27 references.) (Author/SM)
