This booklet contains 20 that address school Skills. It is designed to be used by teachers who work with troubled youth at risk for not completing high school. Each lesson plan provides a goal, a list of materials and detailed directions on how to implement the lesson. Several handouts that accompany the lessons are included. Lesson goals include: communicating the necessity of a high school education; permitting students who believe that they will never need an education to identify and examine that assumption; introducing students to possible serious problems they may encounter because of a lack of education; assisting students who have serious problems in school to accept responsibility for their action instead of blaming teachers, principals and others, and to view these problems in an objective way; assisting students in interacting successfully with their teachers; assisting students who manipulate adults about the results they achieve in school to identify with their behavior; encouraging students in danger of dropping out of school to continue with their education; and assisting students who are at risk of expulsion or suspension to consider moderating their behavior.
