This compendium provides information on exemplary contextual teaching and learning (CTL) projects at teacher preparation programs throughout Washington state, describing project implementation so that other educators can utilize or adapt the exemplars to their own programs or classrooms. Participating colleges and universities infuse CTL strategies into preservice curriculum design and opportunities to interface with practicing teachers effectively using CTL strategies and methods through field observations, CTL field experiences, and course demonstrations. Each entry includes information on: the project itself, project outcomes, CTL components, project instructional details, project implementation, assessment/evaluation, partnerships, documentation/references, reflection, and contact information. After an introduction, the document presents guidelines for CTL, which focus on operationally defining CTL, quality indicators of CTL, and teaching strategies associated with CTL. The next section provides an index of exemplary CTL projects by subject area. The final section presents the CTL project descriptions for both K-12 schools and undergraduate/graduate teacher education. (SM)
