Folkloric recording. Stan McGlashan, born 1910, and a sleeper cutter, discusses his life and sings. He recalls his early family life alongside the railway line moving around New South Wales alot because of his father's job as a railway ganger; living in a series of tents with the family piano being transported with them; his parents background and early memories of Maitland; flu epidemic 1920. McGlashan speaks about starting work on the railways at 15 years of age; moving to Baradine, N.S.W. in 1926 when he was 17 years old, working as a cement mixer; his job as a sleeper cutter. He gives a description of the timber workers camps;the different nationalities in the area; bush entertainment and street dances; life in the Depression; his experiences in war, New Guinea April 1942; his return to civilian life after the war in Baradine truck driving and working as a sleeper cutter.
