The series will be made up of five stamps issued each year until 2014, using the overall themes of departure and journey, arrival and exploration, science and triumphant return. The initial five stamp strip shows the key moments in the departure of the AAE from Hobart and the journey to the Antarctic. Images of the five stamps are set against a background image of the landscape of Hobart dock when the SY Aurora sailed in 1911. The five stamps feature images of the SY Aurora, Captain John King Davis, SY Aurora on the Antarctic voyage, landing at Macquarie Island and birdlife of the island. In the bottom half of the poster are images of the stamp pack. The poster background is of blue rippling water at the foot, varying to plain blue in the top half
