This report describes the supports and services available to people providing out of home care to children in Australia, and identifies their needs and priorities. Drawing on service audits and literature reviews, the report examines financial payments and other services and supports, including respite and training, as well as barriers to providing care, carer retention, carer experiences accessing services, service gaps and inequities, and examples of good practice. Information is provided for formal carers - including foster and kinship carers with care and protection orders - and also informal carers - relatives and grandparents providing care without a court order.
