MS Acc11.101 comprises papers documenting George Ogilvie's professional life in theatre, ballet, opera, television, film and as a writer. The collection covers most of the productions with which Ogilvie was connected, largely as a director. The material in this category chiefly comprises photographs, news cuttings and ephemera. A sample of the titles includes: (theatre) Death of a salesman, Shirley Valentine, Pericles; (ballet) Camelot, Coppelia; (opera) Il Seraglio, Lucrezia Borgia, Falstaff; (television) Bodyline, The shiralee, The battlers; and (film) Mad Max III, Short changed, and The crossing. In addition there are award certificates; photographs of family and friends; personal and professional correspondence; and a manuscript, published copy and reviews of Ogilvie's memoir, Simple gifts (13 boxes, 1 fol. box).

Director and teacher of performance in theatre, opera, ballet and film. George Buchan Ogilvie was born in Goulburn, New South Wales in 1931. Ogilvie first learnt his craft as an actor with a Welsh touring troupe in the United Kingdom, and in 1955 he joined the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust's first theatre company. He spent three years studying mime in Paris under Jacques Lecoq, and worked as a French mime and an English comedian until joining John Sumner in 1965 to form the Melbourne Theatre Company. He was director of the South Australian Theatre Company from 1972 to 1976, and was drawn into film and television by George Miller at the time of Mad Max. His television credits include "The dismissal", "Bodyline" and "The shiralee". Ogilvie was created a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1983 for service to the theatre and the performing arts. In 1988, he received the Byron Kennedy Award for services to the film industry, and, in 1996, a Keating Creative Fellowship to write his autobiography, Simple gifts.
