Summary

Papers and pictures collected by Grey in his early years in New Zealand. 1) BM Add. MSS 19953. "New Zealand pictorial scrapbook, 1845-53", by Andrew Sinclair, Cuthbert Clarke, and J. Merret, containing water-colours and sketches of landscapes and Maoris. 2) BM Add. MSS 19954. Water-colours, drawings, lithographs and sketches 1848-53, illustrating New Zealand scenery, buildings and Maoris by Charles Heaphy, Cuthbert Clarke, G.F. Swainson, Charles Decimus Barraud, J.O. Hamley, C.J. Bosquet, and others. Also sketches of scenery and natives on the Isle of Pines and Loyalty Islands by C. Heaphy and of ships and view of the coast of the New Hebrides by G.F. Swainson. 3) BM Add. MSS 19955. Cuthbert Clarke's diary, 5 Dec. 1849 to 19 Feb. 1850, of a journey in the party of Sir George Gray from Auckland to Taranaki.
