Biography/History

QANTAS’ North American advertising agency, Cunningham & Walsh devised the 1967-1992 “I hate QANTAS” campaign which sought to link the airline with international travellers coming to Australia. This television and advertising campaign, which was the longest running in United States history, featured a series of grumpy but cute koalas who hated the national airline because of the disruption caused by the in-coming tourists to Australia. The original “QANTAS koala”, Teddy, died at San Diego Zoo in February 1976 and was at that time, the last surviving male koala outside Australia. The voice artist for the various koalas in the campaign was American, Howard "Howie" Morris.
