- Summary:
-
Walter Stone was a successful book publisher, printer and collector of books. He came from a family with an active interest in Labour politics and joined the Auburn Labour League as a youth. This branch was the home territory of J.T. Lang and Stone was an active Lang man for a number of years. He was also a member of the Australia Labour Party younger set and of the Socialisation Units, these two groups were eventually closed down by the Labour Party hierarchy. After Lang was dismissed by Governor Game, Stone ceased to support him and became increasingly opposed to him. He talks about the "big fella", Lang and his methods of managing the Labour machine; the events inside the labour party which led to Lang parting with the party; the New Guards period and their methods of attacking Labour Party meetings; the tactics used by the Labour Army to counter these attacks.
