Ann Smith was the niece of Adam Smith the political philosopher. She studied in France and was involved in political activities in England before the War of American Independence. She was condemned to transportation to Botany Bay and escaped when La Perouse visited the colony. She visited Hawaii and other Pacific Islands and died on the west coast of America.
