Biography/History

In 1986 the Nganampa Health Council and the Pitjantjatjara people, living on their own land in the remote area that crosses the state borders of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory, identified, reviewed and implemented a health program in order to tackle their very serious health problems. The review was entitled 'Uwankara Palyanyku Kanyintjaku' (or A strategy for wellbeing). The review highlighted the causes of ill-health including poor housing, drainage, sewerage, water supply and nutrition.
