Summary

Through examining the discourse from local newspapers and other sources, traces the changes in relations between Warrumungu and non-Aboriginal residents of Tennant Creek particularly since the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976; describes the rise of Aboriginal organisations and increased Aboriginal participation in decision-making processes, for example in education and community issues like the Devils Pebbles and proposed toxic waste disposal unit; shows attitudes of mining industry to Aboriginal and conservation concerns.
