Summary

A colour poster advertising Silvers Circus which features a painting of performing horses wearing feathered harness - two full sized horses are rearing at either side, while three miniature or Shetland ponies pose in the foreground, with an audience in the background of the image. Title appears in pink lettering in a blue semi-circle at the upper edge. "Twenty-fifth anniversary" appears lower edge, centre. Artist's monogram, a chicken's head, appears lower right.

Biography/History

The original Silver's Circus was an Australian circus started by Mervyn King along with tentmakers, David Hardie Snr. and his two sons Les and David Jnr "In 1976 Swiss born Anton & Anna [Gasser] continued Silvers Circus in Australia. Their 3 children Tony, Rosita & Dominik have all followed in the family's footsteps to become Circus Artists ... Silvers was voted as "One of the best Ten Circuses in the world" in 1982 ... With artists continually arriving from all parts of the world, Silvers are proud of the ever changing program they are able to present ... National Library of Australia's copy 1 has a black and white panel attached at the foot which bears specific information about a show at the Ballarat Showgrounds in Victoria during April 2001. This panel features a black and white image of a man (presumably Tommy Hanlon Junior) posing with two lion cubs held up to his face.
