1 sheet ; 43 x 38 cm
Summary

Letterpress printed broadside of a circa 2011 poem by mining magnate Gina Rinehart. It argues that “our future [is] threatened with massive debts run up by political hacks / Who dig themselves out by unleashing rampant tax,” and ends with a plea for “special economic zones and wiser government, before it is too late.” The first stanza reads: “The globe is sadly groaning with debt, poverty and strife / And billions now are pleading to enjoy a better life / Their hope lies with resources buried deep within the earth / And the enterprise and capital which give each project worth...”

Notes

Caption title.

Limited edition of 20 copies.

Also known as: Our future (Money can't buy you everything).

Printer's mark embossed bottom centre; text handwritten in pencil on the verso reads: “(Money can't buy you everything).” A small decoration consisting of a geologist's hammer and mining tower superimposed on a map of Australia appears between the two words of the title; a decorative rule appears below between the title and the text.

Produced as part of an Ampersand Duck Broadside Residency. The residency is part of a project called the Emerging Artists Support Scheme (EASS) run by the Australian National University School of Art, and offers graduating students a chance to work in the Ampersand Duck studio to produce an edition of prints using handset letterpress, either by itself or in combination with other processes.

The poem has also been engraved on a plaque attached to a 30-tonne iron ore boulder from the Pilbara re-located near the entrance to the new Coventry Square Markets in Morley, a suburb of Perth.
