Gabrielle Ray was born Gabrielle Elizabeth Clifford Cook at Stockport, England in 1883. She made her first stage appearance at the age of ten, in the West End. During the first decade of the twentieth century she became known for her roles in Edwardian musical comedies. In 1912 she retired from the stage to marry, returning four years later. However, her career entered a decline and she only appeared occasionally in provincial variety tours and pantomimes. Ray finally left the stage in about 1924.
