- Summary:
-
Poster issued by the Cross Border Collective as part of their "We don't cross borders; borders cross us" poster series designed "to invite an engaged audience to consider a series of propositions about the Australian border, labour, race and incarceration." This poster features a flowchart of the "guts" of the Australian border system. At the head of the image appears a paper boat and plane, above a dotted line marked "the border." On the left in red: Arrive by boat -- you are vomited out -- land in mandatory detention [an image of people falling towards barbed wire appears below] -- non 'genuine' refugees get deported. In the centre in blue: Or on a student visa -- your money extracted -- it's nearly impossible to work legally for a fair way and a gamble whether you can stay. On the right hand side in orange: Or as a 'guest' worker -- your labour extracted -- then you get sent back. All three lines converge at the end towards a paper plane. "www.crossbordersydney.org" appears in the lower right corner below the series title.
