Emmanuel Notaras speaks about his family background and history; compulsory Greek National Service; his father's business, Highgate cafe; his family’s reasons for immigrating; Greek beliefs and ethics; attending Canberra Grammar School; racial attitudes going to the Capitol Theatre; starting an Arts Law degree at the Australian National University; attending the Greek Orthodox Church; Canberra the public service town; joining the public service Patent Office; losing his hand in an accident; entertainment in Canberra; setting up a recording studio, Wolf Records, in Fyshwick; organizing well-known artists such as Johnny O’Keefe and John Paul Young for evening entertainment; his marriage; becoming a partner in a supermarket business; investing in the city with his brothers; the Canberra City Heart Business Association; staging concerts for charity; the non-profit company, Canberra CBD Ltd; the commissioning of a metal obelisk etched with images of Canberra over the century; the time capsule to be opened in 100 years containing a letter from Tony Abbott and objects contributed by Canberra residents; his involvement with father Bob McGuire’s organisation for struggling youth, YouthCARE; Canberra’s attractions and their promotions; the Harry and Helen Notaras Foundation; Canberra's importance to him as his home town and the future of Canberra.
