Summary

An artist's book of text and photographs about plants with an ecological message: "Botanikos celebrates simply the significance of plants to the sustenance of life on our planet. Plants are everywhere except the very extreme zones, because of their omnipresence we take them for granted. This book calls you to stop and take note."--Bibliotheca Librorum apud Artificem.

Notes

Includes booklet in pocket: It is time! (8 unnumbered pages ; 15 cm.), written by Monica Oppen, designed by Peter Lyssiotis and for this edition laser printed.

Originally published in an edition of ten copies with three artist's proofs, "hand sewn on vellum tapes and laced onto blackwood ply boards and presented in a clamshell box in 2007. This edition of six copies, hand bound in a cloth case binding on the remaining sheets of the original printing, was completed in 2012."--Colophon.

"Texts have been taken from Genesis 1:11, Brian Capon's Botany for Gardeners and Hoimar von Ditfurth's Children of the Universe: The Tale of Our Existence. Rod Davies at Splitting Image completed the pre-press work. Thanks to Peter Lyssiotos for his assistance with editing and the book's design. Bernie Rackham at Redwood Prints printed the duotone images and text on a flatbed litho press on Magnani Velata Avorio paper."--Colophon.

National Library's SR copy is no. 1, signed by the artist.

Binding

Case bound in magnesium brown cloth. Each copy has a different untitled black and white photograph on the cover.
