MS Acc14.068 comprises correspondence, notes, newsletters, pamphlets, booklets and photographs written and collected by Dr John Kempster relating to Aboriginal Australians advancement in the lead up to the 1967 Referendum. Included in the collection are seven original indigenous artworks on paper. The collection gives insight into the political, social, economic and psychological changes taking place in Australian society in the 1950s and 1960s in regards to how Aboriginal Australian people were being seen and how their needs and aspirations were being understood. Many of the papers in the collection relate to overcoming racial discrimination in the workplace, and in broader society from the viewpoint of white middle-class Australians (3 boxes, 1 map folio).
