Summary

Testimony memoir of a Japanese soldier.who was a guard on Sandakan Death March, Borneo, 1944-1945. Iwahara prepared this memoir to be used in the creation of the ducumentary film, 'Return to Sandakan' by ABC Broadcating of Australia. The program was created to commemorate 50th year of WWll. Walter Hamilton, Australian journalist, later on donated the memoir to the Library. Mr Iwahara explains in the memoir, about the backgound of this memoir, at the beginning. The meetings with Prof Toshiyuki Tanaka, the author of 'Shirarezaru senso hanzai', and the director of the documentary film, Raymond Quint and others are also recorded.

The manuscript contains the brief biography of the author. It reads, 'Boruneo Dai 37-gun Dokuritsu Konsei Dai 25-rentai Dai 2-daitai Dai 5-chūtai' as the troop he belonged to.
