This report explores the factors that affect paren ts' use of Early Childhood Education (ECE) in Australia. Based on interviews with 94 parents in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and Western Australia, it investigates parents' knowledge of and attitudes towards ECE, how different delivery systems affect participation, the key factors that influence parents, the factors that may support parents' use of ECE, Indigenous families, and parents' views on overcoming barriers to access. In Australia, ECE services are delivered by state and local governments as well as private providers, and are provided in a mix of contexts including kindergartens, standalone preschools, long day care settings, and schools.
