Summary

Mervyn Pattemore (born 1922, Ulmirra, near Grafton, NSW). Pattemore speaks about his family background and his training as a missionary with the Aborigines Inland Mission. His first posting was at Phillip Creek Mission near Tennant Creek, N.T. He outlines his duties at the Mission and describes the living conditions. He also discusses the removal of children to the Retta Dixon Home in Darwin. In 1953, Pattemore established a mission and school at Borroloola. He talks about the removal of children from Borroloola and the effect of the equal pay decision. In 1962, he was appointed as the Superintendent of the Retta Dixon Home. He discusses the children who were at the Home, and expresses his views on the policy of removal and the Bringing Them Home Inquiry.
