Inson, an artist, speaks in great detail on numerous topics including his studio in Sydney; his family background; childhood at Cootamundra; boarding at Canberra Grammar School in the 1930s; Max Meldrum's art classes in Melbourne; Meldrum's painting technique; his life and work in Melbourne during World War II; his association with the Meldrum household; differing theories of various painting schools; making picture frames; working in the railway yards, Melbourne and as a waiter at the Oriental Hotel; early portrait commissions and exhibition; portrait work in Tasmania; difficult portraits including Lady Rolf, Gough Whitlam and Sir Zelman Cowen; memorable portraits including Archbishop Mannix.
He then talks about his studio in Rose Street Sydney; his book "The restless years" with Peter O'Shaughnessy and Russell Ward; subjects for his paintings; landscapes; still life; exhibitions and galleries; Royal Arts Society; sketching tours in N.S.W.; painting in Central Australia under the patronage of the Mount Isa Mines Company; overseas trips; his philosophy and motives for painting.
