Jack Kane, former Democratic Labor Party Senator for N.S.W., 1970-1974, speaks about his family background, early childhood, growing up in Lithgow, first job working for Bracey's (General Merchants), after working at Braceys for a year he then worked for the Railways Dept., then working for the mines in 1923, the death of his father in the same year and becoming the breadwinner for the family, working conditions in the mines, joining the Labor Party in 1929, the closure of the State Coal Mine which was owned by the Govt. in 1932 where he was working at the time, after the mine closure working for the Main Roads, his wife, knowing her since she was 3 yrs old, commenting on his consultancy business (Industrial Data) which was set up in 1975 after losing his seat in Parliament.

Jack Kane was a Democratic Labor Party Senator for N.S.W. from 1970-1974, and held the position of Federal Secretary of the Australian Democratic Labor Party and General Secretary of N.S.W. since 1957.
