Z A 2538/2: Reel CY 1179 consists of letters from Daisy Bates to William H. Gill, 1922-34 (frames 270-317). Z ML MSS.1492 : Reel CY 2725 consists of correspondence, 1910-42, mainly describing Daisy Bates' welfare work among the Aboriginal people of Western and South Australia, the publication of her books, her difficulties and frustrations (205 frames).

Daisy May Bates, whose birthdate has only recently been verified by research in Ireland (it was previously believed to be 1863), was a social worker and anthropologist who lived with Aborigines for more than thirty years. She wrote about their language and customs.
