- The Sandhurst Archenu expeditions were two expeditions from Benghazi to Jebel (Gebel) Archenu near the Kufra (Cufra) oasis in southeastern Libya in August 1962 and August-September 1963. They were organised by instructor Captain (later Lieutenant-Colonel) David Nicholas Hall, RE, of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, and included Australian geomorphologist Martin A. J. Williams (from CSIRO and ANU), and on the first expedition: medical officer Dr Peter Beighton , Officer Cadets Fawcus, Field, Overton, O'Sullivan, Clements, Horler, and non-commissioned officers Sergeant Brown and Corporal Thompson. On the second trip, John Blashford-Snell, RE, was second in command. he expeditions found a number of rock paintings, and with the help of the cadets, Williams completed a geomorphological survey of a reconnaissance nature. The expeditions were described in M.A.J. Williams and D.N. Hall, "Recent Expeditions to Libya from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst", The Geographical Journal, volume 131, number 4 (December 1965), pages 482-501.
- This annotated map was donated to the National Library of Australia from the Department of Geography of the Australian National University, where Williams worked, so the annotated expedition route is likely drawn by him.
