Summary

Harold Clive Newman, senior public servant and veteran ANZAC of World War I, speaks about early life and his first job with the Postmaster-General, his time as a soldier during World War I; return to Australia and discharge from the Army; his appointment to Senior Clerk in Canberra in 1938; he describes the landing at Anzac Cove; fighting at Gallipoli; living conditions at Gallipoli; the attack on Lone Pine and the Nek and Hill Co., his appointment to the Dept. of Works and Railways in Canberra and temporary work in Sydney; his rise to the position of Auditor General; work at the Dept. of Defence; his interests since his retirement especially with the Returned Servicemen's League.
