Summary

The MS 9107 collection, which has been organised into series, documents aspects of Noel Counihan's career from the 1930s to 1994, and, in addition to the large body of papers amassed by Counihan during his lifetime, also includes records maintained by his widow after his death (30 boxes, 1 fol. box, 1 map folio).

The Acc00.073 instalment comprises financial papers and taxation forms, including tax documents, 1963-1967, 1970-1971 and 1974-1975, bank statements, 1975-1983, receipts, 1953-1956, and miscellaneous bills, 1978-1979 (3 boxes).

Biography/History

Painter, cartoonist, illustrator and writer. Born in Melbourne, Jack Noel Counihan was an artist noted for his social-realist style and radical outlook, whose work has been widely exhibited in Australia and overseas. An active member of the Communist Party, Counihan was also a foundation member of the Print Council of Australia, and served as the latter's president between 1973 and 1978.
