George Bouchier Richardson (1822-1877) the donor's grandfather, was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and migrated to Melbourne in 1854. He was an engraver and lithographer, as were father, Moses Aaron, his brother John Thomas, and his uncle Thomas Miles. He and his brother practised this trade in Australia, as well as the editorship of country newspapers in Victoria, South Australia and N.S.W.
