This book, and the related title Night-walker (2015), had their origins in a hand drawn book produced at art school in 1989. Several years later, the images were scanned and printed with the intention of making a new editioned work with text (the original had no text other than the title, From the City into Trees). Because of a miscommunication between the paper seller and the printer, the sheets were printed with the paper grain running in the wrong direction, though they were eventually salvaged to become Dark Forest (2009). When leftover paper stock from another project (Slicing the page: the story of Champion Books, 2010) became available, a second printing of the images was undertaken, and a proof copy was bound, but this version of the project (produced in collaboration with Peter Lyssiotis) collapsed in 2011. In 2015 the artist took up the sheets again, and added text extracts from her recent reading, splitting them into two books. The darkness of the texts matches the images.-Based on information from the artist.
