MS 7046 comprises letters, photographs, work diaries, cuttings and other papers relating to Warren Horton's terms as State Librarian of Victoria and as Director-General of the National Library of Australia. The collection also includes an IFLA Special Commendation Certificate, National Book Council Medal, 1996 and an IFLA Medal for service on the Executive Board, 1991-1997 and as Treasurer, 1993-1997. There is material relating to Horton's time at Canberra Grammar School, 1951-1954. Two albums of photographs and clippings compiled by I. Horton have been rehoused into two binders and one folder of material found loose in back of an album. The collection also comprises papers relating to Horton's career, 1951-1999, gift of artwork by Alice Kettle to the National Library, 1997-2000, IFLA Working Group on Revision of Statutes and Rules of Procedure, 1999-2000, Patsy Hardy's life and death, 1994, illness in 1997, the Public Lending Rights Committee, 1992-2000, and speeches, 1984-1999 (5 boxes, 1 carton, 1 fol. box).
The Acc04.114 instalment comprises correspondence (two files), certificates, citations and State Library of New South Wales documents (1 carton).
- Biography/History:

Librarian. Warren Michael Horton began his library career at the State Library of New South Wales in 1957 and was Deputy State Librarian from 1975 to 1981. He was State Librarian of Victoria between 1981 and 1985, and Director-General of the National Library of Australia from 1985 until 1999. Horton was President of the Library Association of Australia in 1984 and he was a member of the Australian National Commission for UNESCO from 1993 to 1996. He became Chair of the Public Lending Rights Committee in 1991 and was Treasurer of the International Federation of Library Associations from 1993 until 1997. In 1988, he won the HCL Anderson Award. Horton was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1992 for service to librarianship, and, in 2001, he received a Centenary Medal.
