"Gentle reader, I have tried to produce a book that will please and instruct both young and old-a book of fun and wisdom combined-a book that shall be a lasting joy in every house that it enters. -E.W. Cole, Book Arcade, Melbourne." -Preface.

"The present edition is enlarged by 16 pages of new matter, which will be found next to page 31. It is unusual to put a supplement in the middle of a book, but I must beg the readers indulgence, as through a multiplicity of other work I have not had time to properly arrange it. In a short time I hope to bring out a classified and still further enlarged edition. -E.W. Cole." -Contents page.
