- Caption title.
- "The glen of the white man's grave" was reprinted in Kendall's Leaves from Australian forests (1869) as "The glen of the Arrawatta."
- National Library's SR copy is inscribed by the poet to the New South Wales politician and literary patron, Thomas Holt; and is accompanied by two separate items: an autograph note from Kendall to Holt, about 40 words, stating that "the accompanying tale of the bush is founded on a subject given to me by your son [Frederick]"; and enclosing the second item, the younger Holt's original pencilled note to him outlining the proposed subject.
