Ian Kiernan, Chairperson of Clean Up Australia and 1994 Australian of the year. At the beginning of his Australian of the Year National Tour of Honour, Kiernan recounts how he became involved with the environmental movement; the evolution of the 1989 Clean up Sydney Harbour into the annual Clean Up Australia campaign; and calls for increased government and industry commitment to environmental protection, particularly the provision of incentives for industry research and development.
