- Summary:
-
This small but nevertheless deeply passionate artist's book is dedicated to Petr Herel's friend Sasha Grishin, the prolific Canberra-based art historian, art critic and curator. The text, "¿Qué será de mi pasión? What will become of my passion?," consists of a single line from midway through Visión, the five page poem that Lorca wrote the night after he received a copy of his first book, followed by the date of composition that Lorca added at the end of his manuscript, "3 April 1918. Night of my book." The translation of Lorca's agonized question about his art is drawn from the prologue of Leslie Stainton's biography, Lorca, A Dream of Life (New York: Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 1999, page 4). The double-sided aquatint plate is pierced and scorched, as if by a spark of lightning like the one that touched the cheek of the young Lorca (as recorded by his brother Francisco in an anecdote that Stainton reprints as her epigraph).
