Summary

Approximately one hundred letters to Hearn acknowledging receipt of his book The theory of legal duties and rights (1883) from university colleagues in Melbourne and Dublin, legal men, librarians, and including letters - some with comments - from Henry Wrixon, Sir William Clarke, Walter Madden, Francis Ormond, Justice Higinbotham, G. McCormack, Walter R. Phillips, Sir James Martin, Thomas McDougal, Herbert Spencer, Sir Redmond Barry, Thomas Webb, and Sir John Quick. There are also severalprinted items relating to the Legislative Council

Biography/History

Hearn was an Irish-born economist and jurist, and taught a wide range of subjects as one of Melbourne University's first four professors. In 1878 he was elected to the Legislative Council
