Composer, lecturer and music critic. Felix Werder was born in Germany in 1922. He lived in Australia from 1940 where he became a composer of classical and electronic music and also a noted critic and educator. The son of a distinguished liturgical composer, Werder composed all his life. He received many commissions from organisations both in Australia and overseas, and was the recipient of a number of awards for his work. His published and recorded music includes symphonies, chamber music for all combinations, solo concerti, choral works and operas. In 1976 Werder was created a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) and in 2002 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Music (honoris causa) at the University of Melbourne.
