- Summary:
-
This compilation of documentary photographs of hair cutters and barbershops brings together a wide range of images taken over almost three decades of Stephen Dupont's career in photography. In his introduction, Dupont recalls deciding to photograph barbers wherever he was from sometime in the late 1980s, and whether he was on assignment in Afghanistan or a road trip in Africa, this was to become his longest running project. Barbers appear in nearly every small town, and may 'pop up' with just a chair, a mirror and a case of tools on street corners, border crossings, in refugee camps, mental asylums, private houses, festivals and more. They are generally hospitable, can be children, young, middle aged, or old; all with a single goal, to make the customers look good.-Based on the introduction.
