Cambourn, National Secretary of the Federated Engine Drivers and Firemen's Association of Australasia, speaks about his childhood in Balmain during the Depression; his parents and their communist views; his schooling; Eureka Youth League; his early jobs; Balmain Branch of the Federated Ironworkers Association; the Communist Party of Australia; Labor Government; 1949 coal strike; working in the Holden factory in South Australia; joining the Federated Engine Drivers and Firemen's Association; time as FEDFA organiser; changes in the Communist Party; ALP Industrial Groups; FEDFA relations with the FIA; FEDFA deregistration in 1948, 1953 and 1959; rebuilding the FEDFA after the 1959 deregistration; the New South Wales Labor Council and delegates; Unsworth Government; Jack Mundey and the Green Bans; Whitlam Government; relations of FEDFA with the Builders' Labourers' Federation; immigrants and unionism; corruption.
