Biography/History

"Geno Facarty was a Sydney-born 18 year-old when he enlisted in September 1916, and went into the line with the 53rd Battalion in the middle of the following year. In September 1917 he was caught by an artillery shell in the rear lines behind Polygon Wood, and buried alive. Soon after he was hospitalised with 'shell shock', and was for the rest of the war attached to base depots, having more than a little trouble with repeated AWL infringements. After the war he lived in both Melbourne and Sydney"--Catalogue from Matthew Fishburn, October 2016.
