Summary

During the early period of maritime service, men, young and old, were shanghaied into virtual slavery at the hands of unscrupulous gangs. These men were often beaten or drugged into submission and then turned over to cruel and seemingly heartless ship owners and their captains for handsome rewards. This is the story of a young man who was impressed into a ship's crew and his determined fight to regain his rightful place in the world.
