Geoffrey Dimmock Nicoll, an Australian pilot during WWII, speaks of his intial training in the RAAF in 1937; the circumstances leading up to his trip to America in 1940, where he was trained in long distance navigation techniques; Canadian aviation medicine; the work he did in America; his experiences on Canton Island, the navigation school and its instructors; his appointment as a squadron leader; his command of the General Reconaissance School in 1942; his liaison with the American military attache; his work through the Hudson conversion course. -- TAPE 2: the advantages and disadvantages of certain aeroplanes used during during the War; his training as a torpedo bomber pilot; his squadron's occupation of "Goodnuf Island" or Goodenough Island, Territory of Papua; recounts battles with the Japanese and the problems with the Beaufort aircraft.
