- Notes:
- "This book has grown out of a collaboration between poet Melinda Smith and artist Caren Florance. The project began as a residency at Old Parliament House in Canberra ... [with] a group of eight hand-lettered wooden signs as their inspiration, and ended up producing a series of eight corresponding text installations as well as some more traditional poems. The work, Be Spoken To, playfully rearranged the text of the original signs using a cut-up method... [and] has given birth to a print-performed letterpress artists' book, 1962: Be Spoken To.... [The poems from it] are reproduced (and re-presented visually) ... in a format much more easily held in the hand.... It is, in effect, the take-home version of the exhibition and the limited edition artists' book." -Foreword.
