Summary

Second Life claims to be a virtual sphere which attempts to depict a true public space distinct from the physical public spaces increasingly regulated by large corporations. However these virtual social hubs ironically mirror real world locations, and while they encourage users to indulge in a secondary existence, also serve as a reminder of something that present day real world cities are beginning to overlook. -Condensed from the introduction.
