Northcote and Prahran met 100 times in the former Victorian Football Association. There were 21 instances of clubs playing each other 100 or times but only one instance of exactly 100. Their record comprised 96 home and away matches, three finals and the 1962 challenge match. The latter game, which involved the team finishing runner-up in Second Division (Prahran) and the club finishing second last in First Division (Northcote) had much at stake because the winner claimed a place in First Division the next year. Northcote won this game by 77 points and remained in the higher division. The challenge match was played only twice and was scrapped because of a two-week gap between the end of the First Division home and away fixtures and the Second Division finals. The concept was good but failed to gain acceptance. The three finals were the 1936 Grand Final, won by Northcote, the 1938 first semi-final won by Northcote and the 1966 Second Division preliminary final won by Prahran by a point. The author covers all 100 games and also provides a generous compendium of statistics after the text.
