- The classes of roads railroads are indicated in addition to aeronautical information.
- Some sheets with "1/4-inch to 1 mile, third edition".
- Issued as Civil air edition, R.A.F. edition, R.A.F. edition (War), and R.A.F. (War) 2nd edition.
- Coloured editions of maps from the Ordnance Survey of England and Wales, 1/4-inch to 1 mile, third edition, with hypsometric tints changed to shades of purple. Sheets have been extended from those of the standard topographic series to Include 8-mile overlaps with adjoining sheets to the east and/or north. Graticule is purple except on the Aeronautical map training sheets, where it is black. Aeronautical map training sheets used for the training of air crews in the use of series GSGS 3982 Europe (Air), which has a similar specification.
