- Summary:
-
A funny, sometimes sad, ripping yarn of a life spent observing and satirising key figures of New Zealand politics, sports and the arts.
Tom Scott is a political commentator, political cartoonist, satirist, scriptwriter, playwright, raconteur and funny man. Drawn Out is a mostly true account of his tragicomic childhood, his riotous student newspaper days, his parliamentary press career, his friendships with other writers like John Clarke and Murray Ball, his work with Ed Hillary and more.
- Biography/History:
-
Tom Scott has been a regular cartoonist for most of his career; initially for the New Zealand Listener magazine, then the Auckland Star, the Evening Post newspaper and its successor the Dominion Post. As a satirist, newspaper columnist and cartoonist, Scott often provokes New Zealand politicians and at one stage was banned from the press contingent for a considerable period of time by the Prime Minister of the day, the Right Honourable Sir Rob Muldoon, which naturally resulted in continuing astringent expressions in the press by Scott.
