The book is about the experience of Japanese sailors who arrived to one of the Aleutian Islands, after drifting away from Japan on a small ship. Some of them died with disease and three people, Kōdayū, Isokichi, Koichi, left for Japan and returned there in 1792. The ship originally left Shirako in Mie Prefecture for Edo in 1782 with 16 people. The book was written by Chōmu Sanjin, utilising official sources and interviewing the relevant people. Information on Russian culture and languages are also contained.
